Snippet from Book

"Sssh," Steve whispered. "Something is watching us." He handed the binoculars to Max. "Look at the ridgeline above the ravine and you'll see it."

Max saw an enormous head protrude from a rocky ledge. The creature opened its mouth revealing a massive jaw with razor-sharp teeth. Its sheer size evoked a sense of dread that sent a bone-chilling shiver down his spine. The lizard, if that's what it was, reared back on its haunches and let out a bellow that shook the ground. "Jesus, what the hell is that?"

"Lower your voice," Steve whispered. "I think it senses our presence. The damned thing knows we're tracking it. That's why it moved to higher ground."

Max realized that he was completely out of his element. "What do you think we should do?"

"I'll tell you what we won't do. It would be insane to go after it. For one thing, our guns will be virtually useless. I don't know if you noticed but it has armor plate for skin. Even if we could get close enough to get off a shot, the only thing a bullet would do is piss it off. Besides, I have the uneasy feeling that there is more than one of them up there."

About This Great Book

Alexis Brooke, an expert at identifying Mesoamerican structures, is called upon to head up an expedition to the Yucatan Peninsula to investigate a half-buried Mayan ruin and a metallic anomaly that purportedly lies beneath it.

With the help of three other scientists, she soon discovers that not only is the ruin hollow, but that it also emits strange sounds, sounds that can only be heard at night. When a member of her team discovers a way to open it, she lowers herself into the ancient structure.

But it's not the ruin that puzzles her—it's what lies directly beneath it. Her archeological training doesn't begin to prepare her and her team for what they will find. . . .

From A Review

From The Author

There have been many mysteries in the ancient world that archeologists have tried to explain, but none as perplexing as those found in the Mayan culture. I have always wondered how the Maya had managed to acquire such a sophisticated writing system, or how they were able to develop an inordinately accurate calendar. It is my belief that such feats of accomplishment would have never taken place had they not had some help.

The deity, Kukulkan, has been referenced in a number of Mayan myths. According to these legends, he was a serpent god responsible for imparting a wealth of knowledge to the Mayan civilization. From their beginnings to their mysterious disappearance, the Mayans baffled us all. How were they able to build such fabulous cities? How could they have possibly known that the planets within our solar system, with the exception of Venus, rotate on their own axis? Was Kukulkan a mere mortal, or something else? And where did he come from?

In my novel, Not of this Earth, I attempt to answer these and other questions that archeologists have posed.
